Only the student and the Instructor are able to Comment on Journal Entries. However, Journals can be made Public by the Instructor so all enrolled users can read all entries made to the Journal topic. Group Journal entries can be read by all Group members and the Instructor.<\/p>\n<p><strong>To create a new Journal:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Navigate to <strong>Control<\/strong> <strong>Panel <\/strong>&gt;<strong> Course<\/strong> <strong>Tools <\/strong>&gt;<strong> Journals <\/strong>and then click the <strong>\u201cCreate<\/strong> <strong>Journal\u201d<\/strong> button.<\/li>\n<li>Provide a name for the Journal and optional instructions.<\/li>\n<li>In the <strong>Journal Availability<\/strong> field, select Yes if you want this Journal available to students.<\/li>\n<li>In the <strong>Journal Date and Time Restrictions<\/strong> field, select how long you want the Journal to be available.<\/li>\n<li>In the <strong>Journal Settings<\/strong> field, select the permissions you want the users of this Journal to have.<\/li>\n<li>In the <strong>Grade Settings<\/strong> field, provide a grade, if you want to grade this Journal.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.acg.edu\/web\/blackboard\/files\/2014\/10\/Capture129.png\" rel=\"lightbox-0\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1538\" title=\"Create Journal\" src=\"http:\/\/www.acg.edu\/web\/blackboard\/files\/2014\/10\/Capture129.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"652\" height=\"271\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>To create a new Journal Entry<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>While on the <strong>Journal Page<\/strong> select a Journal title.<\/li>\n<li>Then click <strong>Create Journal Entry<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>While in the <strong>Create Journal Entry<\/strong> page, type a title and an entry message.<\/li>\n<li>In the <strong>Journal Entry Files<\/strong> field, select the file\/s you want to upload. You can select <strong>Browse My Computer<\/strong> to upload files directly from your computer or you can select <strong>Browse Course<\/strong> to select a file that has already been uploaded to the course.<\/li>\n<li>In the <strong>Submit<\/strong> field, click <strong>Post Entry<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.acg.edu\/web\/blackboard\/files\/2014\/10\/Create-Journal-Entry.png\" rel=\"lightbox-1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2752\" title=\"Create Journal sizes=\"(max-width: 368px) 100vw, 368px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>You can also modify a journal from the contextual menu.<\/p>\n<p>This menu had three options:<a href=\"http:\/\/www.acg.edu\/web\/blackboard\/files\/2014\/10\/Journal-Entry.png\" rel=\"lightbox-2\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-2753\" title=\"Journal Entry\" src=\"http:\/\/www.acg.edu\/web\/blackboard\/files\/2014\/10\/Journal-Entry.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"271\" height=\"121\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Edit<\/strong>: Transfers you to\u00a0 the <strong>Edit Journal Entry<\/strong> page, where you can modify the Journal&#8217;s properties.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Keep as New<\/strong>: Mark the journal as new.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Delete<\/strong>: Deletes the selected journal.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>To edit a Journal entry:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Make sure the Edit mode is ON.<\/li>\n<li>From the contextual menu of a journal click the<strong> Edit<\/strong> option.<\/li>\n<li>While on the Edit journal page, make the changes you want.<\/li>\n<li>Click Submit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>To delete a Journal entry:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Make sure the Edit mode is ON.<\/li>\n<li>From the contextual menu of a journal click the <strong>Delete<\/strong> option.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>To comment on a Journal entry:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>While on the <strong>Journal<\/strong> page.<\/li>\n<li>Find the <strong>Journal<\/strong> entry you want to reply to and click the <strong>Comment<\/strong> button.<\/li>\n<li>A <strong>Comment<\/strong> field will appear, enabling you to submit an answer.<\/li>\n<li>After you have finished writing your answer, click <strong>Submit<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>To grade Journal entries:<\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.acg.edu\/web\/blackboard\/files\/2014\/10\/Grade-Journal.png\" rel=\"lightbox-3\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-2754\" title=\"Grade Journal\" src=\"http:\/\/www.acg.edu\/web\/blackboard\/files\/2014\/10\/Grade-Journal.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"198\" height=\"511\" srcset=\"https:\/\/web.acg.edu\/web\/blackboard\/files\/2014\/10\/Grade-Journal.png 198w, https:\/\/web.acg.edu\/web\/blackboard\/files\/2014\/10\/Grade-Journal-116x300.png 116w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 198px) 100vw, 198px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>While on the <strong>Journal<\/strong> page.<\/li>\n<li>Find the <strong>Journal<\/strong> entry you want to <strong>Grade<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Select the user&#8217;s name on the side panel, in the <strong>More Journals<\/strong> section.<\/li>\n<li>While in the Journal Grade section, click <strong>Edit Grade<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Type a grade in the <strong>Current Grade value<\/strong> box.<\/li>\n<li>Optionally type feedback for the student.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Save Grade<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>View and modify Drafts<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In the creation of a Journal Entry you have the option to <strong>Save<\/strong> <strong>Entry<\/strong> <strong>as<\/strong> <strong>Draft<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>This option instead of publishing the journal entry, it saves it for later use.<\/li>\n<li>To access a Draft, navigate to the Journal page and click the <strong>View Drafts<\/strong> button.<\/li>\n<li>While inside the <strong>Drafts<\/strong> page, you can see all journal entries that you saved as drafts and modify them or publish them.<\/li>\n<li>In order to access a draft, click on it.<\/li>\n<li>While inside you can modify it and save it again as a draft by clicking the <strong>Save<\/strong> <strong>Entry<\/strong> <strong>as<\/strong> <strong>Draft<\/strong> button or publish it by clicking <strong>Post Entry<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>View Journal Information and Details<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The information about the journal can be found on the right page of your screen.<\/li>\n<li>If you click the <strong>Journal Details<\/strong>, you can reveal details about your journal. These details are:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Type<\/strong>: Type of the journal. (Individual or Group)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Entries by<\/strong>: Who can create entries.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Entries<\/strong>: The number of entries in this journal.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Comments<\/strong>: The number of comments.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Below you can see the <strong>Grade<\/strong> of this journal entry and the existing journals.<\/li>\n<li>If you want to hide this menu, you can click the arrow button (<strong>&gt;<\/strong>) at the top-right.<\/li>\n<li>If you want to display the Journal page in fullscreen, simply press the fullscreen button at the top-right of the screen.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.acg.edu\/web\/blackboard\/files\/2014\/11\/Journal-Details.png\" rel=\"lightbox-4\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3394\" src=\"http:\/\/www.acg.edu\/web\/blackboard\/files\/2014\/11\/Journal-Details.png\" alt=\"Journal Details\" width=\"454\" height=\"389\" srcset=\"https:\/\/web.acg.edu\/web\/blackboard\/files\/2014\/11\/Journal-Details.png 454w, https:\/\/web.acg.edu\/web\/blackboard\/files\/2014\/11\/Journal-Details-300x257.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 454px) 100vw, 454px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Journal is self-reflective tool for students.
