The American College of Greece regrets to announce the passing of Ms Vassiliki Karayianni (UPPER ‘57, ‘58, ‘60).

From 1998 onwards, when her father Pandeli Karayianni – one of the founders of AEK football club – passed away, she took up a very active role in AEK, and called the fans her “children.”

She was very much loved at AEK and was considered a very sweet and dignified lady.

Lilly Yialessa Leontidi (PIERCE ’52, UPPER ’54)

The American College of Greece regrets to announce the passing of Lilly Yialessa Leontidi (PIERCE ’52, UPPER ’54).

On Saturday, April 26th 2014, we paid our respects and farewell to our Lilly, one of the most active alumnae of our school. She graduated from PIERCE in 1952 and from Upper (Kollegiako) in 1954.

She volunteered at the Greek Red Cross and was a member of the Board of YWCA during difficult times. She worked as a journalist (TA NEA, PANTHEON, NATION etc.), as a translator (worked with publishing companies such as Ammos and Fytraki) and as Head of Public Relations (Hotel “PENTELIKON”, Artwork Gallery Michalarias).

In her writing projects, two biographies were included: “Sophia Meria, uprooting from place to place” and “Me Fotis Krikzonis, The Bartender.”

She devoted much of her time to the Alumni Association and served as President of the Board, during the time of changes in the statute.

The American College of Greece is grateful for the writing of “History of the American College of Greece from Smyrna until our days”. We will always remember her for her humanity, the warmth in her smile and her heroism -especially in the difficult moments of her life.
