Returning to Campus, Being Inspired
By Sissy Theofanopoulou (DC ’02)*
Some months ago, I visited the DEREE Campus in Aghia Parakevi after a long time.
Just like magic, when I arrived, long-dormant feelings from the past came alive again. Friends, classroom times, campus moments – all paraded in front of my eyes, saluting me and smiling at me.
“Why did I let so much time pass without coming back?” I asked myself. The answer is obvious: routine makes you postpone.
Fortunately, there remains something deeper that does not let you forget: the beautiful memories that remain alive no matter what.
As I walked toward the main DEREE corridor, looking around, I suddenly noticed one of the little banners that decorate the campus. It read: “The American College of Greece – Be Inspired.”
That was it! This phrase was became the next starting point for me at DEREE. How could I be inspired there, again? What would be my motive for new knowledge?
The Continuing Education seminars seemed like a good answer: lifelong learning workshops for a lifelong learning experience. Marketing, psychology, painting, dancing, writing, and so much more to choose from!
I want to attend, not only for the learning but also because the seminars are a unique “coming back to College” experience! In my opinion, they are a wonderful, creative opportunity for alumni to stay in touch with the College, and to keep experiencing unforgettable moments at DEREE!
I look forward to selecting the program I will attend, because DEREE was and still is such an important part of my life.
It helps us alumni stay connected, learn, discover and, most importantly, it helps us “Be Inspired!”
