The American College of Greece is grateful to the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) – Office of American Schools and Hospitals Abroad (ASHA), for their continuous support that has been so pivotal to the success and longevity of the College.

This September, Joel McMillan, USAID Liaison Engineer, and Maggie Moore, USAID Communication Analyst visited the ACG Agia Paraskevi Campus to see firsthand the success of the USAID / ASHA partnership with ACG over time (over 50 years of continuous support), and see in person how this relationship has improved Greek-US relations, as well as how the initiative has helped The American College of Greece accomplish its mission.

During their visit, the USAID / ASHA representatives met with President David G. Horner, Provost Thimios Zaharopoulos, Controller Gabriel Alexopoulos, Executive Director of Development Mary-Irene Triantafillou, Executive Director of Information Resource Management Petros Korovessis, Executive Director of Technical Services Mary Karagouni, and Assistant Dean of Libraries Vicky Tseroni.

Mr McMillan and Ms Moore also toured the DEREE buildings, the Communications Building, and the PIERCE buildings at ACG- including ASHA-funded classrooms with lab enhancements and smart-classroom upgrades.

USAID’s ASHA program provides assistance to schools, libraries, and medical centers outside the United States to serve as study and demonstration centers for American ideals and practices.

Funds are currently being used to purchase technology hardware for an ongoing and essential priority of The American College of Greece: to provide students and teachers with modern American-style teaching tools to better prepare students for a changing workforce in uncertain economic times in Greece.

As a result of USAID/ASHA funding, ACG students have the latest and most effective technology at their fingertips, including classroom lab enhancements that support new undergraduate majors at DEREE, as well as smart classrooms and an improved language lab that are enjoyed by both PIERCE and DEREE students.
