Welcome to the November issue of Touch Base – your official alumni e-newsletter from your alma mater, The American College of Greece.
This month we give thanks for all the people and circumstances in our lives that make it special. For all the good that comes into our lives and for all the inspiration that makes us tread a bit lighter, think positive thoughts and be mindful of our blessings – no matter what.
In this issue, we welcome our newest alumni into our family of over 37,000 alumni worldwide, as we celebrate our ALBA graduates. Congratulations new ACG alumni!
We also feature an inspiring interview with Elly Andriopoulou (DEREE ’97), Chief Operating Officer at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre, who tells Touch Base about her time at DEREE, the things she learned, her career and the work that she is doing with the SNFCC – whose unveiling will be a cultural moment for Greece; it will house the National Library, the National Opera House, a beautiful park, and showcase educational programs for children, in addition to stellar performances for children and adults alike.
Also in this issue, check out which alumni came to campus to motivate students and share their experiences, first for Discover DEREE Day where Tonia Aroni (DEREE ‘06), HR Associate Manager at Procter & Gamble, Greece spoke to prospective students about the tools she gained at College, then for the 38th annual Career Days at DEREE, which saw a host of alumni hold workshops and share their career wisdom.
Prominent ACG alumni – including Ms Aroni – also spoke and gave workshops at the first ever Youth to Business Forum held in Greece – an AIESEC event that takes place in various countries around the world, this year DEREE was the proud host of on October 13, and it featured the theme “Defying Uncertainty.” Here too, business leaders prodded students to seize opportunities and also held workshops showing them the way.
We are very proud of all our ACG alumni who are giving back and inspiring new generations of students by telling their stories and helping students realize their dreams.
Read on to find out which alumni won two of four Hellenic Entrepreneurship Awards – an award helping experienced and budding entrepreneurs in Greece bring new business ideas to fruition.
For more inspiration, read about ACG alumna Ainola Terzopoulou (PIERCE ’85, DEREE ’90), who held a live-life-well workshop during BLENDER 2014, a unique Saturday at the ACG Ag. Paraskevi campus full of creativity and fun. BLENDER also hosted TEDx Academy live streaming, a RED FM party, tasting surprises, and much, much more – co-organized by DEREE, ALBA and Kathimerini newspaper.
And, as always, don’t forget to read our popular Rising Star section, to see which alumni are on the move, and also send us your own news so that we can share it with fellow alumni at [email protected].
