Milestones

Milestones are a way for instructors to motivate students by acknowledging specific accomplishments during a course. These milestones can be accessed in the Achievements tab of the Blackboard course. Students receive badges as rewards for these achievements, which are usually associated with various milestones such as:

  • Completing a unit or module: Students earn a badge upon finishing a specific section of the course.
  • Passing a test: A badge is awarded for achieving a certain score on a test.
  • Reviewing material for a test: Students receive a badge for completing preparatory work before an assessment.

If this is your first time using the Achievement tab to create a badge, please click the “New Course Badge” button located at the top right corner of the tab. This will take you to a new page where you can name your badge, provide a description, and choose an image for it. Finally, select the item for which the achievement will be awarded upon completion, along with the required grade.

After you’ve created a badge, you can edit it by clicking the settings button, which is represented by three dots on the right side of the badge. Alternatively, you can click on the name of the badge to be directed to the same editing page.

Except for the badge settings, you have a recipients tab where you can see which of your students have received the specific badge.
