Mashups

Mashups allow instructors to add content to a Course that is from an external Web site, For example you can add a YouTube video in a content area to better help students understand a topic.

There are two ways to add Mashups. You can add them as Content items in folder or through the text editor.

These are the default Mashups that are included with Blackboard Learn:

  1. Flickr: Viewing and sharing photographs.
  2. Slideshare: Viewing and sharing PowerPoint presentation, Word documents and PDFs.
  3. YouTube: Viewing and sharing online videos.

Creating Mashup as an item

  1. Open a Content Area that you want to add the Mashup item.
  2. Select what kind of Mashup you want to add.(Flickr,Slideshare,YouTube)
  3. Find the content you want to add.
  4. Use preview if you want to check the contents of the Mashup.
  5. Click Select.
  6. Change the name of the item or leave the default name.
  7. Type a Description.
  8. Set the Mashup Options.
  9. Attach additional content to the Mashup either from your computer or from inside of the course.
  10. Click Yes to Permit Users to View this Content. (Make Mashup available to students)
  11. Click Yes to Track Number of Views.(Show the number of times the Mashup has been opened)
  12. Use the Display After and Display Until date and time fields to set when and for how long the Mashup will be available to the students.
  13. Click Preview to examine the Mashup.
  14. Click Submit.

Create a Mashup Item using the Text Editor

  1. While in the Virtual Textbox Editor .
  2. Click Add Mashup on the bottom row of Text Editor buttons.
  3. Select Flickr Photo, Slideshare Presentation, or YouTube Video.
  4. Find the content you want to add.
  5. Use preview if you want to check the contents of the Mashup.
  6. Click Select.
  7. Change the name of the item or leave the default name.
  8. Type a Description.
  9. Set the Mashup Options.
  10. Click Submit.
  11. Select from the following Options: Lock File, Share Comments, Enable Versioning, and Enable Tracking.
  12. Click Submit.

Please keep in mind that if you want to upload a private SlideShare presentation you have to copy the URL and send it to the selected recipients.
